Solid season for local divers

The Thunder Bay Diving Club made good strides this past season with the addition of a former Olympic diver who is now one of our assistant coaches.

Congratulations to all of the divers who competed in the 2016-2017 season.

Last December, TBDC hosted the Winter Provincial Diving Championships at the Canada Games Complex, where 43 divers from 10 teams and three provinces competed.

In January, six divers travelled to Winnipeg with head coach Jason Napper for the Polar Bear Classic; for many of these athletes it was their first international competition experience with teams attending from Columbia, Mexico and five Canadian provinces.

Mid-season several divers attend the spring and summer Ontario Provincial Championships in Windsor and Etobicoke respectively and in June TBDC brought the largest group in recent history to compete at the Manitoba Provincial Diving Championships in Winnipeg.

From veteran divers to first-time competitors TBDC had a great showing; coming home with 22 medals, many personal best scores and two athletes completing their qualifications to attend junior nationals.

Ella Brown attended the Developmental Nationals in Victoria, B.C. for the first time this season and Abbey Meloche and Christopher Lake-Voros completed the season with strong finishes at the Junior Elite Nationals in Montreal.

TBDC would like to congratulate all of our athletes and send out a big thank you to all of the meet organizers, volunteers, coaches and parents for making this season a great experience for our athletes.

Club tryouts for the 2017-2018 season are slated for Sept. 7-8.
